So I stumbled upon this Jaaaagon while trying to convince my wife that an AWD wagon would be better than a crossover. Does anyone know anything about these? I know Ford was involved with Jag for a while. This seems really cheap. Help a brother out!

its pretty much a volvo v40 with a jag body on it.
i almost mistakened it for a v40 first time I saw it.
doesnt look to bad. ford mechanicals means it should be cheap to maintian.
but keep in mind, the x-type was always made fun of being the baby jag.

The automatic transmission would blow up if you looked at it funny, better to find a manual.

They're built on the same platform as the Mondeo, and as such people always say that they're not real Jags.
They're not, but that doesn't stop them being bloody good cars.

Not that good, not that bad. If you want a Ford with a Jag interior...

I don't know about US prices, but that one looks mega expensive compared to UK prices. They're the kind of car that's great value over here because you can pick them up cheap, but I'm not sure that applies in your market.

Honestly I am not a big fan of Ford. I dont mind people laughing because I bought a cheap Jag though. I'm not big on what other people think about my cars.

Having looked at AWD drive vehicles in my area this is cheap. It is hard to find somewhat low mileage, non-compact AWD cars that aren't $20k and up.

That is a scary link, my UK friend.

i nvr said i laugh about it.
i prefer to have weird/left feild cars.
anyways, why does ur wife want a cross over? AWD wagons are better looking, better active safety (if you jerk the wheel trying to avoid something, its not going to tip) and easier to clean in the winter
i need AWD cuz of snow?
get her a proper set of winters before hand.

The X-Type wagon is the best Jaguar ever. Sure it's no Toyota, but it's a hell of a lot better than the pre-Ford Jags!
If you're really lucky, you might find one with a manual transmission. Most of them have the cute cat on the hood.
It's basically a second-gen Ford Mondeo that we never got over here.

No.
The V40 was a Mitsubishi, and some of its parts are actually interchangeable with the Evo III.
The X-Type is a Mondeo.

Maybe it came off wrong but I wasn't being a smartass or defensive. Sorry if you took it that way. Wife wants more room, higher seating position, yes AWD for snow. Our area doesn't do much to the roads and we commonly get shitstorms. I am usually the first person to see our local roads and highway so I also like the benefit of AWD.

Bullshit. My mother has had an automatic Jaguar X-Type 2.5 since 2002, and she has never once had a problem with the transmission. Let me ask you, have you ever owned an X-Type?

I used to work with a guy who had one. He liked it. I see all kinds of rare cars on a daily basis and I've never seen another one.

The Toyota Matrix or Pontiac Vibe AWD are also good options :)

1st.) I have a 2004 3.0 X-Type as my daily driver so how about you calm the fuck down.
2.) The auto boxes on X-Types are known to have issues (2002's even have a recall for the transmissions).

Well then, might be worth a look. From what I understand it's not the most reliable car ever, but not completely terrible. You'd want to research the issues more carefully, though.
I sort of half-considered buying one a while back, because they're really cheap here, but they're a bit of a mish-mash. In some respects they're very nice indeed - the dashboard, for one thing - but on the whole they're more in the Saab/Volvo luxury bracket than other, higher end Jags.

I've seen worse on that site. A lot of the problems are to do with the diesels, and were common to whatever they shared the engines with. But I'm not all that sure how bad things really are, so you'd want to research a bit more carefully on a Jag forum or something.
Probably also worth checking out what a 3rd party warranty would cost.

1:) I am calm. I simply asked you a question, so why don't "you calm the fuck down"?
2) She got the recall thing taken care of, and since then she's had no transmission issues.

Whan you say "Jagon"...

I think those are a bit smaller than we want. I have driven a few Vibes and wasn't impressed but I was younger then and only cared about tire smoke.

The fuck? Hahaha

you get just as much room in a AWD. (if you want to proof it in a chaping way, find a Cross over with no alot of room.
high seating position: i've never understood this. fit a DIY periscope through the sunroof or something.
i would recommend getting her to watch this vid:

AWD is pretty much useless without Snow's. and it doesnt help slowing down. If you can swing it, try getting her to do a winter driving school. teach her to drift and recover, even if she may not like it.

I think i relaized why i thought that, the tail lights are ALMOST (not entirly) identical to the V40/s40 tail lights. not to mention that they have similar proportions.
huh. didnt know that, I forgot tht the x-type was a mondeo, but i never knew about the volvo/mistu thing..

I really feel like there should be an "oh snap!" up in here, but I'm really not sure which of you get it...
